I think the hiatus is partly due to increasing competition and difficulty of any artiste not signed with a major production studio in China to find good roles in this economical turbulence times. Also, trying to make the transition to Hollywood in 2008 was bad timing (with hindsight) due to screenwriters' strike and unforeseeable global economy recession.

It is interesting that some of the female stars senior to Yifei has now ventured to become producers, shareholders or even directors to leverage their influence and secure work for the future.
